Outline of Inside and Outside Bets in Roulette

Roulette is one of the most famous games being played in the casino. It is known to have mixed elements of Keno and the exciting pace of lottery, but what is better in Roulette is the wide array of betting options it gives to its players.

The game of Roulette gets more and more exciting with the combination of luck, player skill, and different strategies, that are prevalent in the game.

Compared to lottery and Keno, Roulette is known to give better odds. Although the payouts may not be as high as lottery or Keno, Roulette gives its players the opportunity win huge money with better odds, and less risk.

All bets in the American Roulette game have a house edge of 5.26 percent. If you bet the five number bet (in American Roulette, one chip that touches 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3, paying 6:1), the house edge is 7.89 percent.

In roulette, the bets are grouped either as inside bets or outside bets. The amount of money staked will depend on the exact bets played.

Inside bets are the hardest to win but it gives the highest payout. Famous inside bets includes the "five number", "straight", "split", and "corner".

Other inside bets are "street", and "double-street".

Among the inside bets, the straight bet is known to give the highest payout (this is betting on a single number). Conversely the winning odds of the straight bet are the longest on the table.

A split bet is given when the chip is on the line between two numbers, predicting that either of the two numbers will be hit. The split bet odds are seventeen to one.

Meanwhile, as the name suggests, corner bets are when the chip is positioned in the corner of four different numbers and betting that any of the 4 numbers will be hit. The payout odds for corner bets are eight to one.

On the other hand, players commonly use the street bet and double street bet. A street bet is a bet that covers three numbers. The odds of payout for street bet are eleven to one.

The double street bet is made when you place your chip right one the line between two of the rows of three, on the outer edge of the two rows. The odds of payout for double street bets are five to one.

On the other side, the outside bets are Red-Black, Odd-Even, dozen bets, column bets and 1-18/19-36 bets.

In outside bets, the Red-Black bet is the usual choice of players. The bet is placed either on the red or on the black number. The Red-Black betting gives a 50-50 percent chance of winning. The odds of payout are one to one. The Zeros are green, and you will lose on either color, if one should come up.

The Odd-Even is betting either on the odd or even number, and is no different than playing red-black. If the ball lands in the Zero or Double-Zero, the bet will be lost.

The dozen bets (1-12, 13-24, 25-36), and the three column bets, each covers the three sections of the Roulette board. The dozens bets and the column bets gives a payout odds of two to one.

Lastly, the given bet of 1-18 or 19-36 covers the half of the roulette board. Similar to Odd-Even and Red-Black, if the ball will land in the Zero pocket, the bet will be lost.
